Dutch Oven Dinner at Church
7/16/2003
The
month of July is considered Pioneer month by some due to the wagon trains
arriving in the Salt Lake Valley in the month of July ... July 24 to be exact.
The women's organization at church asked me to come and fix a Dutch Oven dinner
for them and tell them something about Dutch Ovens. I set up a display,
cooked Sweet and Sour Chicken, made rice in another Dutch Oven and made a
Pineapple upside-down cake in a 14" shallow oven. The women loved it
and I got to discuss Dutch Ovens with them. Hyde and Mary Hitchcock made
an appearance as pioneers and went through their act. It went very well.
What I forgot to take a picture of was the 5 loaves of yeast bread that I made
in two 8" Dutch Ovens. They were the best so far.
